Soon after connecting with Amy, I realised one of the Coast’s most idyllic beach settings was literally at the end of her street. This combination of dunes, tamarisk pines and beach vegetation is a dream scene, together with a stretch of squeak-between-your-toes sand that’s largely deserted, no matter what day of the week.

While Amy’s partner Nick grew up on the Gold Coast, she migrated from Perth originally and, like many, has been heartbreakingly separated from her family for majority of the year. A particularly precious time when grandparents want to be dotting on their grandkids.

It was an honour to freeze frame this beautifully chaotic age in the boy’s lives; memories Amy and Nick can hang on their wall and share with friends and family, near and far. Tom was proudly attempting his first steps at 10 months, while three-year-old Tex was a bundle of energy. They were so very at home on this afternoon, in this magical pocket of Tugun.

If you’ve been toying with the idea of a family shoot, yet you’re anxious about your uber busy toddlers (an age where they don’t take much direction), my sessions are candid and casual and it’s easy to snap a few extra frames as they go running past, to ensure I can deliver a diverse and full gallery of photographs to admire for years to come.
