FAQ | FAMILY PORTRAIT SESSIONS
-
Please get in touch via my contact form (or email) and we can find a date that mutually suits.
A $200 booking fee is required to secure your session and preferred date, payable via direct debit or credit card. Once your deposit has been paid and contract signed, you’re all booked! Before your session, please choose your image package. The final payment is due any time before your shoot session (images will not be delivered until this payment is made). If you’re unable to make the session, please advise me within 24 hours and we can reschedule.

Family sessions can be booked at any time of the week or year. Golden hour (about one hour before sunset) is best for outdoor sessions, while timing is more flexible if done at home.
Maternity sessions are best scheduled around 28 to 34 weeks, while newborn sessions should be planned well in advance. We’ll pencil you in around your due date, knowing this could well move forward or back. Newborn sessions typically last a little longer (around 2 hours) and are ideally done at home around 7 to 14 days old when baby is most sleepy and squishy. Of course, we can always schedule a few months down the track when you’ve settled into your role as a new mum.

You have a couple choices.
At home: This option is one of my favourites. Overall, these sessions have a more relaxed vibe to them, and children are more comfortable in their own environment. At home shoots are also highly recommended for newborn sessions. Don’t worry if your house is messy, just tidy a few of your favourite rooms and those corners with beautiful light, and we can improvise from there.
Outdoors: I have a handful of beautiful locations to suggest, though am always open to ideas also. For example, a session at one of your much-loved beaches or parks to visit as a family ensures everyone is comfortable from the outset.

Portrait sessions can be rescheduled due to weather, illness or an emergency. A 24-hour notice is appreciated, and we’ll reschedule based on availability. If the day looks rainy, we may need to keep an eye on things as the day progresses, as just-passing or threatening rain can bring the most moody and romantic skies.

Of course! I am based on the southern end of the Gold Coast, servicing all of the Gold Coast and Tweed Shire. Should you be located in the Byron Shire or Brisbane/Logan area, this would attract an additional travel fee. Anything further afield, let’s chat.

I suggest opting for soft and light colours for a nice pop from the background. Pastels and neutral, earthy colours photograph beautifully (e.g. sage green, mushroom pink, soft oranges and blues), as do whites, creams and oatmeal. Solid colours tend to work better than patterns, though one or two carefully selected patterns in the mix can also work really nicely. Feel free to layer up different textures as well. And don’t be afraid to dress up for your photo session! Think about the family photo you’d like to see printed on your wall.
I suggest mum chooses her outfit first—something that makes her feel beautiful and comfortable. Long floaty skirts or maxi dresses look especially stunning as they can create movement in a photograph.
I have a growing client wardrobe that the ladies are welcome to browse prior to the session. Just choose one to three outfits, and I can bring them along with me.
Gents are recommended to wear a soft linen shirt or a simple fresh and crisp t-shirt can also look really handsome. If you’re coming along to an outdoor session, bring the shirt on a hanger and change when you arrive to avoid creasing in the car.
Shoes or no shoes? I always suggest bare feet on the beach or at home. If we’re in the valley, I’ll let you know if shoes are suggested depending on the location.
With all of that said, the most important thing is that you’re all comfortable and look and feel like yourselves on the day.
Please use the above as a guide only - if it’s not your style at all, these photos are your memories so please dress your family however you feel is best.
If you would still like some guidance, let’s jump on the phone to chat or lay out your chosen wardrobe on the bed and send me some photos via text message!

Your preview gallery will be delivered within 7 to 14 days. If, for any reason, the time frame will be longer, I will advise you as soon as possible. Alternatively, if you need delivery expedited, please let me know upon booking.

Rather than offering a limited number of images with your package, my preference is to give you the complete gallery of images following your session. My storytelling style includes plenty of details and in-between moments, so I don’t want you to be forced to choose between your favourites.
Images are delivered via an online gallery, which allow you to download both high resolution and web-ready files. You’ll receive anywhere from 60 to 100 (sometimes more!) images, depending on the type and length of session.
Please be sure to download your high-resolution files and keep them in a safe place.

I offer a beautiful selection of products - from custom framed prints to albums, loose prints and more - that can only be accessed by professional photographers from one of Australia’s best print and framing labs. These products are printed on archival quality paper that will last for generations to enjoy. Once you receive your photos, you can view my shop and order direct from your online gallery.
If you want to print your own photos, I do always suggest avoiding cheap services like Big W, Officeworks or Snapfish. Sadly, they can butcher the colours and quality, and your investment deserves so much better than that!
Regardless please, PLEASE, print your photos! These are the memories you want your children to show their children, which may never happen if they’re misplaced, corrupted or forgotten on a dusty hard drive.
