My JourneyAfter a decade of dreaming about a career in photography, in 2020 I quit my job (thanks Covid) and took the plunge headfirst—without ever having had a paid client.
In two years, I grew my business from zero to earning A$75,000 working flexible hours around my young family and FIFO husband. I did this without any expensive professional branding, a website I built myself, and a nominal Instagram following.
I’ve also turned away loads of work — by choice, as I preferred to stay below the GST cap, whilst accepting only the work I am most drawn to. I work on my own terms, choose my own hours and set my own holidays. And I recently returned from an adventure-of-a-lifetime with my family, with the trust I could pick up where I left upon my return.
Sure, I’m confident now in my ability to take consistent and beautiful photos for my clients. But what makes me most proud, is the business I’ve built and my natural ability for being organised.
